Town, County and State COVID-19 Responses

The Phase II plan to reopen North Carolina began at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd, and has since been extended three times until at least Friday, Sept. 11th. At this time, it is mandatory to wear masks when in public and you cannot be six feet or more from other people outside of your immediate household. This rule applies inside and outside.

In mid-July, Governor Roy Cooper announced the state would pursue Plan B learning, with a mix of virtual and in-person instruction. Individual school districts were also given the option to start with all virtual learning. Carteret County Public Schools will move forward with the Plan B option, of students being in school buildings two days a week, and using remote learning three days a week. There will be two groups of students to make this possible with social distancing requirements. Families also will have the option for 100 percent virtual learning, according to their website.

We encourage you to continue referring to the state, county, and local municipal websites to see if rules vary between different locations. Governor Roy Cooper has reminded residents that if their town has more rigid rules, those supersede the state guidelines. We have a separate post on our website pertaining to the modified Phase II Reopening Guidelines and information from the NCDHHS.
