Volunteer Opportunities Abound
The Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee presents 8 John C. Beitz Service Person of the Quarter awards each year to honor representatives of the Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard. The MAC presents each honoree with a letter of commendation for their file, a check, and a folded flag in a display case.
The MAC hosts a Military Family Fun Day in the spring and a Military Fun Day event in the fall for active duty personnel to enjoy a day of recreation at the Crystal Coast.
In 2023, the MAC will host its first Military Spouses Appreciation Day on the Friday before Mothers Day.
The MAC participates in the Carteret County Veterans Day Parade held each year in Morehead City. It is the largest Veterans Day observance in North Carolina.
During the Christmas holidays, the MAC encourages the contribution of home-baked goods, such as cookies, brownies, and other desserts for distribution to active duty service men and women, many of whom are away from home for the very first time. This “Cookies for the Troops” project typically collects thousands of treats and holiday cards to distribute.
The MAC is always looking for ways to celebrate and support our military. In 2023 the committee is exploring the Our Community Salutes Program to honor youth who are enlisting after graduation.
