Enter to win $10,000 at the 2023 Carteret County Chamber of Commerce’s Reverse Drawing and Disco Ball Fundraiser

Get ready to groove the night away! The Carteret County Chamber of Commerce invites you to grab a date, put on your leisure suits, lace up your platform boots and join in for an unforgettable evening at the 2023 Reverse Drawing and Disco Ball presented by Emerald Isle Realty Saturday 6 pm – 10:30 pm Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Tickets to enter the $10,000 prize drawing are $150, and each ticket admits two guests to the Disco Ball.
The glittering affair promises to be an evening of non-stop 1970s-themed entertainment and a chance to win $10,000 cash. Throughout the evening, the Chamber will pull all but one of the 350 tickets sold. Tickets pulled early aren’t an immediate loss, though: second chance tickets will be for sale allowing anyone to get back in the game! The final ticket holder will take home the $10,000 prize. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win.
As tickets are pulled one by one, guests will be treated to an open beer, wine and cocktail bar, an ample spread provided by Class Act Catering, and an evening packed with 70s music and nostalgia. There will also be a 50/50 cash raffle and a silent auction featuring local art, jewelry, weekend getaways and more. At the end of the evening, Carteret Cab will provide free rides home to anywhere in Carteret County.
The Reverse Drawing has been held for more than two decades, and is an integral part of the Chamber’s success, according to Marketing & Program Development Manager Taylor McCune.
“Many don’t realize it, but the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce is a completely independent organization with no outside affiliations or funding,” she said. “This fundraiser accounts for 40% of our annual operating budget. We truly could not serve the businesses, organizations and military service personnel of this county the way we do without it. Plus, it’s a great time for all involved, and someone will win big!”

Cash and Goodies Up for Grabs
The $10,000 prize is just one way Disco Ball guests can walk away a winner. In addition to the reverse drawing itself, the Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee (MAC) will hold a 50/50 cash raffle. Tickets are $1 for 1 chance and $20 for 25 chances. Last year’s raffle winner took home $2,740, with the other half benefiting the MAC’s programs and events in support of local service people and their families.
This year, the Chamber is holding two silent auctions– an in-person auction exclusive to Disco Ball attendees, and an online auction open to the public. The online auction opens Wednesday, August 2, at 32auctions.com/discoball. Dozens of items donated by local businesses and organizations–including one $10,000 Reverse Drawing ticket for two–will be up for bid through Thursday, August 11. Keep an eye on the Chamber’s Facebook page for alerts about new auction additions.
The in-person silent auction will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Disco Ball August 12. Select items will be featured, including thousands of dollars in local gift cards, jewelry, home decor, weekend getaways and even a private flight in a World War 2 biplane. Hard-to-get items like original art and tickets to the popular Chowder and Cheer crawl held by Downtown Morehead City, Inc. will be up for grabs as well. In-person auction items will be available for preview at 32auctions.com/discoball.
Building a Boogie Wonderland
The music of the late 70s has maintained a hold over celebratory occasions for more than 40 years. You hear it at wedding receptions and beach music concerts alike. The beat to the BeeGees classic, Stayin’ Alive, is quite literally written into first aid handbooks.
Beats per minute may as well be the heartbeat of the disco era, so this year the Chamber is working with 2021 beLocal Best DJ, Tristan Berrini, known for blanketing Crystal Coast weddings and parties with energetic soundscapes and dazzling lights. As tickets are pulled, Berrini will guide the crowd through a range of disco, funk and 70s pop favorites.
An avid vintage vinyl collector since age 10, he’s been waiting for a party like the Disco Ball.
“Without even knowing it, I’ve been preparing for this gig for a decade,” he said, flipping through albums by KC and the Sunshine Band, Kool and the Gang, Wild Cherry and Rick James.

Glitter and Polyester: A Torrid Affair
The disco era was defined by its fashion as much as it was its music. To celebrate the glitz and glam that decorated dance floors and all the other fabulous fashions that dotted the pages of the JC Penney catalog, guests are encouraged to dress in their 70s best.
All guests are invited to enter their 70s looks into the evening’s costume contest. Judges will be looking for the best representation of the 70s, from fat-Elvises to Fonzies and Daisy Dukes to dancing queens. First, second and third place winners will take home prizes and be featured on the Chamber’s social media pages.

Throwback Fun
Between getting groovy on the dance floor and bidding on auction items, guests can take a trip down pop culture memory lane. Gamers can take turns playing classic arcade games straight from the disco era. BB’s Amusements of Morehead City will provide vintage pinball machines and original Frogger and Mrs. Pacman games.
To celebrate the early 70s, the Mystery Machine will be on site for photo ops. This vintage van owned by Shannon and Celia Adams can regularly be seen cruising through the county, but only Disco Ball guests will be able to get a true Scooby Doo experience.
Are You Feeling Lucky?
Tickets are selling rapidly! Only 350 tickets are available, making the chance of winning the grand prize of $10,000 the best bet in town. So don’t miss your chance to enjoy a night of unforgettable fun and prizes.
