Annual Cookies for the Troops cookie drive
The Carteret County Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee is once again soliciting donations for the annual Cookies for the Troops drive and is looking forward to the large community support that makes this annual event possible.
The holiday treats are delivered to MCAS Cherry Point, Coast Guard Stations Fort Macon and Emerald Isle, and MCALF Bogue Field by members of the Military Affairs Committee for the service men and women who will be on duty over the holidays and unable to go home to see family and friends.
“This is a simple way to show your support of our men and women who will be on duty over the holidays,” said Cindy Davison, Chamber Program Manager. “The recipients are excited to receive the treats, and it means a lot to them that Carteret County cares.”
“Last year we were able to collect around 20,000 individual treats, which was an amazing feat, considering the pandemic,” said Ms. Davison. “The generosity during such a difficult time for Carteret County really highlighted why this area is such a wonderful place to live. We would love to see this number grow this year, so even more men and women can receive cookies.”
Donations may be dropped of December 13-15 at the Chamber of Commerce office in Makenzie Square, 3332 Bridges Street, Suite 6, Morehead City. Office hours are 9am-5pm. There are several local businesses partnering with the Chamber of Commerce this year as collection points. They are as follows:
- West Town Bank & Trust, 804 Arendell Street, Morehead City
- Hilton O’Neal, Edward Jones, 601 Cedar Street, Suite B, Beaufort
- M.F. Chappell Wine Merchant, 407 Atlantic Beach Causeway, Atlantic Beach
- Bluewater Real Estate, 200 Mangrove Drive, Emerald Isle
- Bluewater Real Estate, 407 Atlantic Beach Causeway, Atlantic Beach
- Swansboro Chamber of Commerce, 203 Church Street, Swansboro
Homemade or purchased cookies and treats may be dropped off in bulk. There is no need to individually wrap. They can be packaged in large bags, on disposable plates wrapped in plastic or foil, or in plastic containers. If you would like your container returned to you, please label it with your name and phone number. Containers may be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce office beginning Monday, December 20.
No time to bake? Slice Bakery in Morehead City is again baking special batches of cookies for Cookies for the Troops. Cookies are $16.95 for two dozen assorted cookies and they will be delivered to the Chamber of Commerce for you. Simply order at www.slicebakery.net, on their Facebook page, or by calling (252) 497-8919. Orders must be placed by 5:00pm on December 15.
Christmas cards by children and adults alike are encouraged to be dropped off at the Chamber as well.
“The addition of cards to the cookie deliveries adds that special touch for the recipients. The service men and women appreciate the personal messages of appreciation.” said Ms. Davison.
